Do you have a few of those wonderfully scented bottles at home but have no idea what you can actually do with them? These easy methods allow you to take full advantage of the essential oil benefits:

1. In a diffuser

With a diffuser or aroma lamp, you can spread subtle scents all day long, depending on what you need at the time. For example, peppermint, rosemary, orange, and eucalyptus are nice in the morning because they have a stimulating effect. Can you use an energy boost during the day? Then try bergamot, geranium, or melissa. In the evening, relaxing scents such as lavender, Ylang Ylang, and vetiver help you to unwind or fall asleep.

2. During a massage

We never say no to a massage, but a massage with essential oil is double enjoyment. Easily make your own massage oil by adding your favorite essential oil to a vegetable, preferably cold-pressed base oil (such as sesame oil or almond oil). Per 125 ml of base oil, you add about 15-20 drops of essential oil.

3. In the bath

Add a few drops of oil to the bathwater, possibly in combination with Epsom bath salt. Do you not have a bath or no time to take a bath? Then a foot bath is also possible.

4. Directly on the skin

A few drops of essential oil on your skin has a big impact on your mood. Good places to dab (a little bit) of oil on your chest, wrists, temples, and the bottoms of your feet. To be on the safe side, dab one drop on the inside of your wrist first and wait half an hour to see how your skin reacts to it.

5. Inhale

It couldn’t be easier: open the bottle of oil and breathe in the scent directly through your nose. You can also rub a few drops between your palms and inhale the scent from there. Or put some essential oil on a tissue so you can carry it with you all day long.

6. On your pillow

Do you have trouble falling asleep, or do you regularly wake up at night? Lavender is the absolute number one when it comes to relaxation. With a few drops of lavender oil on your pillow, you will be in dreamland in no time.

7. To clean

Making your own cleaning products yourself is sustainable and a piece of cake. And you can bet that your home will smell fresher than ever if you use an all-purpose cleaner or air freshener with a few drops of essential oil.

Just check before use

If you use essential oil directly on your skin or if you add it to care products, read a little first. Not all types are equally pleasant or safe for your skin. Cinnamon, oregano, and lemongrass, for example, can cause irritation on sensitive skin.

Mixing is allowed

Feel free to use several essential oils at the same time. Geranium and lavender go very well together, just like peppermint, cinnamon, and rosemary. By experimenting with different combinations, you create your own, very personal favorites.
